So, I’ve just reached over 18 months into my recruitment career here at CoTalent and the number one thing I’ve learned is just how important candidate relationships are.

If you just place a candidate and move on this isn’t a Relationship, this is just a Transaction. For me it’s all about building a relationship and actually taking an interest in you as a person.

I want to know what makes you tick and what really excites you in your field of work.

Whether I place you now, next month or next year, I want you to have had a positive experience with myself and CoTalent.

It’s critical to know you on both a technical but also personal level. I want to be able to call you about a role that I already know matches what you look for because I’ve previously taken the time to understand you. I will never be that recruiter that calls you about every role I have even though you told me clearly that you want something different.

Recruitment is a sales environment and yes, I have targets. But for me the joy that I get about actually placing a candidate in the right type of role that matches what they are looking for is the best feeling. Without sounding cliché it’s what really motivates me to leap out of bed in the morning.

As recruiters, we are too focused on making the deal and moving on. For me once I place a candidate this is the beginning of the relationship. After all, these people are your future clients. Well, they should be.

After care is the most important part of recruitment.

I pride myself on the relationship I have with my contractors. I want them to feel comfortable talking to me about any issue they have but also let me know what amazing projects and tech they are working on.

As recruiters, we can have a huge impact on people’s lives and we need to remember this.
